Culturally Responsive Instruction

Culturally responsive teachers strive to understand cultures different than their own and make school an equitable experience for all students regardless of culture, language, or socioeconomic status.

The four major components of culturally responsive schooling that promote achievement:

  • Work with culturally supported facilitating or limiting attitudes and abilities.
  • Sustain high expectations for all students
  • Marshal parental and community support for schooling. (p. 265)

Components of differentiated instruction:

  • Instructional strategies
  • Instructional resources
  • Student support
  • Time and workload
  • Difficulty
  • Products and presentations
  • Types of assessment
