Assessment Acronyms
- ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State)
This assessment is part of Kentucky's statewide accountability system. It is given each January to assess the English language development of our ELL students. It tests all four language domains: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. It is supplied by WIDA the consortium with which our state collaborates.
- W-APT (Wida-ACCESS Placement Test)
This placement is given to any ELL student who is new to any public school in a state that is associated with the WIDA consortium. For Kindergarteners, only the Speaking and Listening categories are assessed. For all other students, all four language domains are assessed. A student's score helps determine the level of support he/she may need in English language development.
